Following the formal winding up of the Friends of Katoomba Falls Creek Valley Inc. (colloquially ‘the Friends’) as an organisation in 2016, two former members of the Friends on its Working Group for over many years, Steven Ridd and Desmond Barrett decided to team up.
They both agreed to set out to secure all the extensive paper records of the Friends as kept by Neil Stuart at his Katoomba home over the 27 years life of the organisation that Neil had founded and managed since 1989.
The Friends record collection was and remains quite large, yet its was recovered in a state that was very organised, intact and in excellent physical condition despite the many years retained. The record collection is equivalent to the best part of about 170 Lever Arch folders plus various ephemera in overall storage volume.
Within a brief period at the end of Cordial arrangements were successfully secured by Des within a brief period with the accessible Blue Mountains Historical Society (BMHS) for it to accept transfer and custody of the entire records as an intact archive.
