Early on in late 1989, The Friends initiated their campaign to have The Valley environmentally protected, and this included starting publicity to promote their campaign to local residents.

[Archivist Note to readers: Recall that The Friends and its Working Group were all unpaid volunteers contributing their time and efforts to the cause of caring for The Valley.

Fundraising was a tight budget and the organisational skills of campaign publicity fell by default to Neil Stuart.  Print was the only available form at the time.  In the 1980s and 1990s, the advent of social media, mobile phones and the Internet did not exist.  The cost of advertising in the local Blue Mountains Gazette newspaper was prohibitive.]
